New record price set for rare Rolex at auction
A very rare vintage Rolex Submariner has achieved a new world record of a £192,000 sale price at a UK based auction house. Initially experts expected it could sell for between £50-£80,000, but it surpassed all expectations when it went under the hammer on the 25th May 2016, selling for just under £200,000, an astounding result!
The 1963 Submariner came with full provenance, and the original warranty paperwork issued with the watch when first purchased all that time ago, with the original box, receipts of servicing, two vintage brochures and an extra box from Rolex that had been date marked.
What made this Rolex so special? On this occasion the money was in the dial, known in the industry as the 'Explorer 3-6-9 gloss dial' which were only produced in very limited numbers in the 1960s and aided by the watch being a fully complete set. This watch is a perfect example of a classic Rolex that has sat in a drawer for a lifetime, hardly ever being worn and being well looked after which has grown immensely in value over its life.
Here at www.watches.co.uk we have noticed a sharp demand in good vintage Rolex stock, with collectors willing to part with a lot of money considering the watch is special enough and comes with full box & paperwork and from the right era.
