The device that gave the watch its name, the Omega Racend Timer, was first produced in 1949. It combined a timer and a slit photofinish camera. A year earlier, Omega had premiered its photoelectric cells at the London 1948 Olympic Games, where they were used in conjunction with a photo finish camera created by the British Race Finish Recording Company. Together, Omega and Race Finish developed the Omega Racend Timer and sport timekeeping was changed forever.
