Oris watches sponsors Malta fishing competition
Oris watches may have been used by some fishermen to keep track of their progress in one competition in the Mediterranean.
The Malta Fishing Forum recently held its second offshore Alongi boat fishing competition and this year 54 vessels took part, DI-VE reports.
Held around Malta and Gozo, the event was sponsored by Oris watches and the winners of the challenge – Francis Mercieca and his teammate Joe Carabott - received Oris Der Meistertaucher Swiss timepieces.
They caught six fish, which weighed in at a total of 48.2 kgs.
Oris watches also donated a 27-foot long support and safety boat called Oris 1, which floated out at sea during the competition, before moving to Ghar Lapsi to become the official weigh-in vessel.
The brand has been making timepieces in Switzerland for more than 100 years and Formula One drivers, as well as Hollywood and musical stars, have been seen wearing the devices.
