Breguet developed its first prototype chronograph Type 20 wristwatches in the 1950s and in 1958 the French Aéronavale, which was the naval air arm of the French Navy, commissioned Breguet to create a series of 500 numbered pieces.

The Type 20 watches, similar to the earlier B-Uhr pilots’ watches commissioned by the German military, needed to meet some basic prerequisites, including a having a 38 mm diameter stainless steel case, a chronograph with “flyback” function, a rotating bezel engraved with a 12-hour scale, a power reserve of 35-hours or more, luminescent material on the hands and dial, and an accuracy of 8 seconds +/- per day.

This reference 3810BR Type XXI is a perfect example of the modern version of the old pilot’s style watch and was launched in 2004 for the first time as a non-steel Type XXI. It comes set in a contemporary 42mm solid 18ct rose gold case with fluted sides. The 60-minute engraved bi-rotational bezel comes in a matching brushed rose gold and is contrasting to the brown sunburst finished dial. True to the early models, this one features large luminous Arabic numerals and pencil hands with a date feature set into the bottom of three chronograph sub-dials. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass and the watch is powered by the Breguet calibre 584 Q automatic chronograph movement. The watch comes fitted on a brown Breguet alligator leather deployment strap with a rose gold folding clasp.

Originally purchased in April 2015 and in fine condition (light marks on the bezel), this Type XXI comes complete with its original inner and outer boxes, instruction booklet, international warranty paperwork and service paperwork from December 2021.

This Breguet is under it's manufacturer service warranty until December 2023.
