The Tank was first introduced by Louis Cartier in 1917, inspired by the shape of Renault tanks used during World War I. Its clean lines, rectangular case, and unique aesthetic made it an instant classic, embodying the elegance and sophistication of the Art Deco era. The Tank Américaine, specifically, was introduced in the 1989 and was conceived by the Cartier workshop in the USA as they set about remodelling the tank to further cater to their American audience. They built upon the timeless design of the original Tank with by elongating the case with a more pronounced curve than the original model. It playfully updated the geometry of the lines, retaining the rectangular form while alternating between round edges and angles. 

This iteration of the Tank Américaine, reference W2609956 comes set in a 52mm x 31mm 18ct white gold case fitted with an octagonal crown embellished with a blue spinel cabochon. The timeless silver opaline guilloche dial features printed black Roman numeral hour indexes and minute track, as well as a contrasting blued steel hands and a date aperture at 6 o'clock. These details are protected by a curved sapphire crystal and driven by the automatic calibre 191 movement. Lastly, the watch is completed by a black alligator strap with polished 18ct white gold deployment clasp. 

Originally sold in October 2015 and in mint condition, supplied with its original inner box, booklet holder, service pouch, Cartier DVD, instruction booklet, Cartier service documentation (September 2024) and international warranty booklet.
