First introduced in 1933, the Tank Basculante represents one of Cartier’s most ingenious and characterful designs. Created during the Art Deco era, the Basculante was conceived as a practical yet elegant solution to protect the watch dial and crystal. Its signature swivelling case, mounted within a rectangular frame, allows the watch head to pivot and reverse-combining technical innovation with Cartier’s unmistakable aesthetic refinement.

This particular example, reference 2386, is crafted in stainless steel and features the classic Basculante reversible case. The refined grey textured dial is adorned with white Roman numeral hour markers and elegant steel sword hands, staying true to Cartier’s enduring design language. These details are protected by a sapphire crystal, while timekeeping is driven by a quartz movement.

The watch is completed with a dark navy leather strap and classic Cartier buckle, offering a balanced blend of sophistication and wearability. Subtle, architectural, and unmistakably Cartier, the Tank Basculante remains one of the most distinctive interpretations within the Tank family.

Originally purchased in November 2001, this example remains in mint condition and benefits from a Cartier service carried out in May 2023, with the accompanying service receipt included. It is supplied with its outer box, Cartier travel box, travel pouch, red booklet holder, international service booklet, Cartier certificate booklet, and instruction booklet.

This is a beautifully preserved and thoughtfully presented example of a true Cartier classic.
