Created in 1927 by two aristocrats to compensate for the loss of the Italian Grand Prix by their hometown of Brescia, the Mille Miglia took the original option of having racing cars compete on roads rather than tracks. Discontinued in 1957 for safety reasons, it was revived 20 years later under the name Mille Miglia Storica and became the world’s most prestigious classic car endurance race.

In 1988, Chopard took on the twin roles of partner and official timekeeper to the famous Mille Miglia race. Chopard became the main sponsor of the legendary Mille Miglia and one of the first watch brands to associate its name with the automobile world. Chopard displays its sporting spirit by presenting an annual limited edition to mark the latest edition of the race.

This version the reference 16/8932 was released in 2003 and limited to the same number of watches produced. The watch comes set in a polished 42mm stainless steel round case with an engraved steel tachymeter bezel. The dial is a crisp white colour with contrasting split-second markers around the chapter ring, printed black 5 minute increments, applied luminous indexes and luminous sword hands. The dial is finished off with the date feature between 4/5 o’clock and triple chronograph sub-dials at 3/6/9 with the red Mille Miglia logo in the 3 o’clock sub-dial. Powered by the automatic base ETA calibre 2894/2 chronograph movement which is  protected by an embossed caseback with a map of the MIlle Miglia race in Italy. This Mille Miglia is completed by a matching polished stainless steel bracelet with a matching butterfly folding clasp.

Originally purchased in January 2004 and in mint condition, this Chopard comes with its original inner & outer boxes, instruction booklet, spare black leather ‘racing’ strap (worn) and international warranty certificate.
