Created in 1927 by two aristocrats to compensate for the loss of the Italian Grand Prix by their hometown of Brescia, the Mille Miglia took the original option of having racing cars compete on roads rather than tracks. Discontinued in 1957 for safety reasons, it was revived 20 years later under the name Mille Miglia Storica and became the world’s most prestigious classic car endurance race.

In 1988, Chopard took on the twin roles of partner and official timekeeper to the famous Mille Miglia race. Chopard became the main sponsor of the legendary Mille Miglia and one of the first watch brands to associate its name with the automobile world. Chopard displays its sporting spirit by presenting an annual limited edition to mark the latest edition of the race. It has now taken place in more countries thanks to its wide appeal, which has spawned various special edition models.

This is the reference 168555-3005, which was launched in 2015 and is the ‘Dubai Special Edition’ of which only 100 pieces were made. It comes set in a polished 45mm stainless steel case with a tachymeter engraved bezel. The dial is a clean grey colour with contrasting orange hour markers and hands, there are also triple chronograph sub-dials at 12/9/6 for measuring up to 12-hours in anthracite silver and a second time-zone hand in red; that matches the Mille Miglia logo at 3 o’clock, which contains the date. It is protected by a sapphire crystal glass and is powered by an automatic movement, which is covered by an embossed steel caseback featuring the Mille Miglia logo and unique limited edition number. It comes fitted on a black rubber ‘tyre’ strap with a Chopard steel pin-buckle.

Originally purchased in January 2015 and in mint condition, this Chopard comes with its original inner & outer boxes (inner box has signs of wear), instruction booklet, (blank) chronometer certificate, spare grey/orange nylon fabric strap and international warranty certificate. It is sold with a 12-month warranty from SWC.
