The Portugieser is one of the oldest and best-known families within IWC, with no other collection incorporating so many of the technical tours de force of haute horlogerie. Their iconic design, a blend of imposing size, Arabic numerals, slim feuille hands and railway-track-style chapter ring, originated in the 1930s and retains the same enduring style they became known for all those years ago.
This version of IWC's famed Portugieser, reference IW524205 is an incredibly scarce limited edition of 250 pieces that boasts one of the most highly regarded and technical complications that exists in the horological world, the minute repeater. This complication works by mechanically chiming the time upon depressing the slide located on the 9 o'clock side of the case; This action causes a delicate strike train to acoustically sound the time in hours, quarters and minutes. Complicated, technical and incredibly charming, there is a reason this complication is held in such high esteem and only incorporated in the finest watches from only the foremost manufactures.
This Portugieser comes comes set in an opulent 43mm 18ct white gold case with polished concave bezel. The clean anthracite dial features sunburst finishing, applied Arabic numerals, slim feuille hands, railway-track-style chapter ring and running seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock. The watch is protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass and powered by the exceptionally technical IWC calibre 95290, which boasts 43hr's of power reserve and can be viewed through the sapphire caseback. Finally this minute repeater is completed by a Brown alligator strap with matching 18ct white gold IWC deployment clasp.
Originally purchased in June 2016 and in mint condition, coming supplied with its original box, instruction booklet, guarantee booklet, cleaning cloth, IWC service documentation (2023) and international warranty card.
