The Memovox was first introduced by Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1950/51 with the manually wound Calibre 489. The two separate crowns allowed you to manually wind and set the alarm and timekeeping parts of the movement separately. The name Memovox is a composite of two Latin words, Memor (remembering) and Vox (voice), meaning "the voice of remembering," a perfect choice for an alarm watch. A few years after, in 1956, the Cal. 489 was replaced with the Calibre 815, making the Memovox the first automatically wound alarm wristwatch.

This version, the reference 141.2.97 comes set in a contemporary 38.5mm 18ct rose gold case with a smooth polished bezel. The dial is a beautiful silver sunburst finish with black printed minute markers around the chapter ring, with applied 18ct rose gold quarter Arabic numerals and arrowhead hour markers. There is also a date feature at 3 o’clock, and the inner section of the dial rotates to allow the mechanical alarm to be set (thanks to the secondary case crown). The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass and the watch is powered by the Jaeger calibre 916 automatic movement, which is protected by a solid caseback emblazoned with the Master Control logo; indicating the rigorous testing that the movement has to pass. It comes fitted on a brown alligator leather strap with matching 18ct rose gold JLC deployment clasp.

Originally purchased in December 1998 and in mint condition, this Jaeger comes supplied with a JLC service box, guarantee booklet, service booklet, instruction booklet and guarantee certificate. This Memovox is sold with a 12-month warranty from SWC and would make a great addition to any collection.
