We are proud to present this striking Omega Seamaster ProPlof Co-Axial divers watch for sale.
When Omega set out to design a dive watch for professionals in the mid-'60s, it didn't start with an existing design and iterate. The iconic Seamaster 300 was in Omega's catalog at the time. Instead, the company started from the ground up to create two "Ploprof" models. The name is derived from Plongeur Professionnel, meaning "professional diver" in French.
In the 1960’s there was a growing number of commercial divers, so the demand for a robust, waterproof, legible, reliable and high-depth rated watch caused the development by Omega of the unmistakable Seamaster 600 (now known as the ProPlof) debuting at the 1969 Basel Show and being issued for retail sale in April 1971.
This version, the reference 18.104.22.168.01.001 was launched in 2009 and comes set in the iconic 55mm x 48mm solid stainless steel case. The bezel is a clean black ceramic with luminous increments and is uni-rotational. The dial is also black with contrasting white minute markers and Superluminova hour markers and hands, including the orange-edged minute hand used to time the dives. It also has a date feature between 4-5 o’clock and is protected by a sapphire crystal glass. On the left side of the case is a protected screw-down crown and on the right an orange-edged helium release valve and the watch is water resistant up to 1200M. It is powered by the Omega Co-Axial calibre 8500 automatic movement, which is protected by a solid caseback featuring the Hippocampus emblem. It comes fitted on a ‘sharkproof’ stainless steel mesh bracelet with a folding steel clasp.
Originally purchased in March 2011 and in mint condition, this ProPlof comes with its original inner & outer boxes, seal, certificate of authenticity, leather card holder, pictogram, chronometer certificate and international warranty cards. This Seamaster is sold with a 12-month warranty from SWC.
