With the Speedmaster, Omega has in its collection one of the most iconic watches in history. However, keeping an eye on the future, they have introduced subsequent collections within the Speedmaster range fitted with their in-house coloured ceramic cases; Dark (black), Grey and White sides of the moon respectively. 

Apollo 8 was the second crewed spaceflight mission flown in the United States Apollo space program and became the first crewed spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit, reach the Moon, orbit it, and return. Furthermore, the crew of Apollo 8, which launched December 21, 1968, were the first to see the far side of the Moon. 50 years later, in 2018, Omega produced a new timepiece to celebrate this event.

This version, the reference 311.92.44.30.01.001 comes set in a 44.25mm black ceramic case with a matching fixed black ceramic tachymetre bezel, featuring a yellow accent. The dial is where this model stands apart from other Speedmasters, it is black and partially skeletonised with ‘moon-surface’ sections,  triple sub-dials with more yellow accents and luminous hour markers on the fixed outer chapter ring. The watch is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal glass and is powered by the (unique to this model) Omega 1861 manual wind  chronograph mechanism, which features more moon texturing and  is visible through an exhibition caseback. There is also an engraving on the caseback from the Apollo 8 crew which reads “we’ll see you on the other side”. It comes on a black Omega perforated leather strap with yellow stitching and a rubber underside. It has a black ceramic buckle.

Originally purchased in April 2020 and in unworn condition, this Speedmaster comes with its original inner and outer boxes, Omega cloth, instruction booklet, black card holder, swing tag, pictogram card and international warranty card. This Speedmaster is under Omega warranty until April 2025.
