Omega Speedmaster Vintage , CK2998-61

We are proud to present this highly collectible Omega Speedmaster CK2998, offered in fine condition, carefully checked in our workshop.

The reference CK2998 occupies a special place in the history of the Speedmaster and in space exploration itself. It was this very reference that became the first Omega worn in space, when astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra wore his personal CK2998 during the Sigma 7 mission in October 1962. This milestone predates the Apollo Moon landings and firmly establishes the CK2998 as one of the most important “pre-Moon” Speedmasters ever produced.

Produced between 1959 and 1963/64, the CK2998 introduced several defining design elements that distinguish it from later Moonwatch references. These include the elegant straight lugs, the black aluminium tachymètre bezel, and the balanced tri-compax dial layout that would go on to define the Speedmaster lineage.

This example, dating to circa 1964, features an original black dial with three recessed sub-dials, crisp white baton hour markers, and matching hands, offering excellent legibility and timeless symmetry. The stainless steel case retains strong proportions.

Powering the watch is the legendary Omega calibre 321, a column-wheel chronograph movement developed in collaboration with Lemania and widely regarded as one of the finest chronograph calibres ever produced. The same movement would later be used by houses such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, and Breguet, further underlining its significance.

This CK2998 is supplied only with an Extract from the Omega Archives, confirming its production details and heritage. No additional accessories are included. The watch is sold with our 12-month warranty, offering peace of mind alongside its historical importance.
