Highlights

Featuring impressive presentation and heritage, this vintage Omega Polaris 1/100 Rattrapante is a throwback to the late eighties era of luxury digital sports watches. A must see for vintage Omega fans and featuring a formidable array of features, this watch is in Mint condition considering its age.

Created in the 1980s, it emerged at a time when mechanical watches had become close to obsolete, Swiss craftsmanship had been replaced for Japanese precision. But the Swiss fought back, and the Polaris (designed by legendary watchmaker Gerald Genta) was one of the creations it fought back with. Launched ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Omega was desperate to maintain its presence as Olympic timekeeper, a title held since 1932.

Most intriguing about the Polaris collection isn't its quartz movements, which vary from traditional analogue layouts to multi-display analogue-digital hybrids, but its appearance. The lozenge-shaped case and its integrated bracelet were clearly intended to look futuristic, to encourage shoppers that the brand hadn't lost its relevance, buts it's the combination of materials that really sets this watch apart.

Whether in titanium and gold or steel and gold, what you got with the Polaris collection was a two-tone band that circled the dial and spread across the case. These bands might look plated, but actually these are 2mm thick strips of 24-carat gold inlaid into the case. Omega has never revealed how this was achieved, so it remains an intriguing mystery to this day.

Sometimes referred to as the 'Melded Metal' Polaris , This watch comes with immaculate original inner and outer presentation boxes, swing tag, grey Omega document holder, and both omega booklets from the era. Featuring a steel case and bracelet with 18ct gold detailed inlay.

Ian Tait

I broke all my rules and bought a Rolex GMT Master II after viewing on-line and speaking to Dee on the telephone. I was delighted when the watch arrived and replaced an 'old friend'. I continued to view the web-site and then bought a Sea Dweller on-line. Yet again I spoke to Dee and questioned the fact that it was only rated as "Fine". She advised me of a couple of scuffs on case. When received I only found them with my glasses on and searching and do not notice when wearing. I now have two 'new' watches that are a daily pleasure to wear. The GMT with its 24 hour hand, Bezel and date window and the simple and clear face with bezel of the Sea Dweller. They have different characters but are both a joy. Having made a one-off purchase on-line I returned and made a second. I have enjoyed discussions with Dee prior to purchases and trust her word and direct and clear answers to my questions by telephone. I have had no hesitation in recommending the company and website to fellow watch enthusiasts and expressing my complete trust of Dee and the team who have earned my complete loyalty.
