The Omega Speedmaster stands as an iconic timepiece with a rich heritage and an enduring legacy in the realm of horology. Renowned as the "Moonwatch," the Speedmaster achieved global fame for being the first watch worn on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Beyond its extraterrestrial connection, this chronograph has consistently embodied precision, durability, and timeless design since its inception in 1957. The Speedmaster has become a symbol of innovation and adventure, captivating watch enthusiasts and space aficionados alike with its blend of cutting-edge technology and classic aesthetics. However, the models produced during the late 1960s have become highly collectible and remain among the most desirable vintage Speedmasters. This version, the ST145.022-69, was produced circa 1969 and represents one of the earliest references to feature the renowned Omega calibre 861 manual-wind chronograph movement. A 42mm stainless steel case with integrated crown guards and is fitted with the highly sought-after black aluminium tachymetre bezel. The dial is original and features the applied Omega logo along with a clean matte black finish, contrasting white minute and chronograph scale markings, and aged tritium luminous hour markers. White baton hands with subsidiary registers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock complete the dial, which is protected by a genuine Omega hesalite crystal. Powered by the legendary Omega calibre 861 manual chronograph movement, the watch is secured by a solid stainless steel caseback. Lastly, the watch is completed by the correct Omega reference 1171 bracelet with 633 end links, secured by the classic fold-over Omega clasp.

Originally produced circa 1969 and presented in fine condition, this Speedmaster is supplied without its original box or papers.

Please note the plain spun case back, the hippocampus engraving was so faint that it has now totally gone, since the case back was re-spun.
