Emerging from the visionary ingenuity of Rolex's founder, Hans Wilsdorf, the Oyster Perpetual series stands as a pinnacle of horological innovation. In 1931, Rolex achieved a groundbreaking milestone by patenting a self-winding watch movement; the world’s first mechanism to be energized through a rotor 'weight.' This ingenious design allowed the timepiece to harness the motion of the wearer's arm and wrist, ensuring a perpetual winding of the intricate mechanism. The moniker 'Perpetual' aptly reflected this self-sustaining feature. Notably, it wasn't until the 1950s that the appellation 'Oyster Perpetual' graced the dials of automatic Rolex watches, marking a significant era in the evolution of this iconic timekeeping legacy.

This iteration of the Oyster Perpetual Date, reference 15223, was produced from 1988 until the mid-2000’s and is presented in a polished stainless steel 34mm Oyster case with an 18ct yellow gold engine turned bezel. Its champagne sunburst date features matching applied 18ct yellow gold baton hour markers and stick hands, as well as the classic date feature at 3 o’clock. These details are protected by a flat sapphire crystal glass and driven by the workhorse automatic calibre 3135 chronometer movement. Lastly, the 10atm (100m/330ft) water resistance is ensured by a screwdown Twinlock crown, with the watch completed by its original Rolesor (Stainless steel / 18ct Yellow gold) Oyster bracelet and crown embossed folding clasp.

Originally produced circa 2000 and in mint condition for its age, supplied with its original inner and outer box (outer box in poor condition), translation booklet, leather passport holder, leather certificate holder and its original warranty certificate (undated).
