In 1935 the Royal Italian Navy approached Panerai and other watch manufacturers with the request of designing a watch resistant to extreme conditions while at the same time keeping exact time for the frogman commandos of the First Submarine Group Command and offering excellent legibility even under water. The prototype submitted by Panerai in 1936 was called Radiomir, from the name of the luminescent substance used for hands and indices and passed all the tests successfully.

This version the Radiomir PAM00292 was produced in 2007 and is now discontinued. It is set in a matte black ceramic cushion-shaped case with a more traditional shaped screw-down crown, based on the early models before Panerai’s patented crown-lock system was invented in 1955. It also features a smooth matte bezel as well as a clean black dial with cut-out 12/6/3 Arabic numerals and hour markers, running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and is protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass. It is powered by the Panerai calibre OP XI in-house manual wind mechanism and protected by a solid caseback. It comes fitted on a light brown calf leather strap with cream stitching and a trapezoidal pin buckle.

Originally purchased in circa 2007 and in mint condition, this Radiomir comes with its original inner & outer boxes, instruction booklet, barcode stickers, guarantee booklet and international warranty card (stamped not dated).
