In 1935 the Royal Italian Navy approached Panerai and other watch manufacturers with the request of designing a watch resistant to extreme conditions while at the same time keeping exact time for the frogman commandos of the First Submarine Group Command and offering excellent legibility even under water. The prototype submitted by Panerai in 1936 was called Radiomir, from the name of the luminescent substance used for hands and indices and passed all the tests successfully.

This version the Radiomir PAM00514 was produced in 2013 and is still in production today (2021). It is set in a polished 316L steel cushion-shaped case with a more traditional shaped crown, based on the early models before Panerai’s patented crown-lock system was invented in 1955. It also features a smooth polished bezel. The dial is a clean black colour with the cut-out 12/6 Arabic numerals and hour markers, protected by a domed sapphire crystal glass. It is powered by the Panerai calibre P.3000 in-house manual wind mechanism with a ‘3-day’ power reserve and is visible through an exhibition caseback. It comes fitted on a brown alligator leather strap with beige stitching and a steel pin buckle.

Originally purchased in September 2020 and in mint condition, this Radiomir comes with its original inner & outer boxes, instruction booklet and international warranty. This Panerai is under warranty until September 2022 and is supported by a 12-month warranty from SWC.
