Conceived by Hans Wilsdorf to pay tribute to World War II pilots, the Rolex Air-King boasts a remarkable production history spanning over seven decades. Pilots and fervent Rolex admirers alike have embraced the Air-King, with esteemed companies such as Pan-Am selecting these timepieces as retirement gifts for their pilots. The enduring legacy of the Air-King is a testament to its timeless design and the admiration it commands within aviation circles and beyond.

This version of the famed Air-King, reference 5500, was first released in 1957 and was produced for a phenomenal 32 years until being discontinued in 1989. Coming set in a 34mm stainless steel Oyster case with smooth polished bezel and fitted with a screwdown crown which ensures its 10atm (100m/330ft) water resistance. The silver sunburst dial features a contrasting black minute track, applied baton indicators and matching hands, all protected by an acrylic plexi crystal. Driven by the automatic calibre 1520 and further safeguarded by solid screwdown caseback. Lastly, this Air-King is completed by a tapered stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding Oyster clasp. 

Originally produced in 1972 (dated from serial) and in fine condition for its age, this Air-King comes supplied with our branded watch roll, authenticity card and 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
