Rolex’s relationship with motorsport dates back to the early 20th century, when racing pioneers relied on precision timekeeping to measure speed and endurance. This legacy culminated in the creation of the Cosmograph Daytona in the 1960s, a chronograph purpose-built for professional racing drivers. Since then, the Daytona has become one of the most iconic and desirable sports watches ever produced, admired for its performance, design, and exclusivity.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, Rolex introduced a landmark model that redefined the concept of a luxury sports chronograph: the Platinum Daytona, reference 116506. Rather than revisiting the past, Rolex elevated the collection to its highest expression, combining cutting-edge engineering with the brand’s most precious materials.

This striking example is housed in a 40mm solid platinum Oyster case, paired with a fixed chestnut brown Cerachrom tachymeter bezel engraved with the classic units-per-hour scale. As a signature of Rolex’s most exclusive platinum models, the watch features the instantly recognisable ice-blue sunburst dial, complemented by applied luminous hour markers and contrasting chronograph sub-dials that echo the tones of the bezel and dial. These details are protected by a flat sapphire crystal.

Powering the watch is the renowned Rolex calibre 4130 automatic chronograph movement, celebrated for its robustness, efficiency, and precision. Screw-down chronograph pushers and a Triplock crown ensure secure water resistance, while the watch is completed by a solid platinum Oyster bracelet, fitted with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp and Easylink comfort extension system.

Originally purchased in February 2018, this Daytona remains in mint condition with protective stickers intact. It has since been serviced by Rolex in February 2023, and as a result benefits from Rolex international warranty coverage until February 2028. The watch is supplied as a full set, including its inner and outer Rolex boxes, both swing tags, international warranty card, Rolex service card, green leather card holder, and original booklets.
