Originally introduced in 1945 to celebrate Rolex's 40th anniversary, the Datejust became the world's first self-winding chronometer wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date displayed through an aperture at 3 o'clock. Its unmistakable design and exceptional reliability have made the Datejust a cornerstone of the brand's catalogue for generations.

This example, reference 16008, dates to circa 1978 and is a particularly desirable configuration featuring the uncommon smooth bezel in solid 18ct yellow gold, offering a more understated appearance than the traditional fluted alternative. The classic 36mm Oyster case houses an automatic Rolex chronometer movement and is paired with a matching champagne dial featuring applied baton hour markers, matching hands and the signature date display beneath a Cyclops magnification lens. Completing the watch is a stunning black leather strap, creating a refined and elegant aesthetic that has become synonymous with vintage Rolex dress watches.

Dating to circa 1978 and presented in mint condition for its age, this Datejust has benefited from a full Rolex service completed in July 2026, the winding crown was replaced.
