The Rolex Explorer stands as a testament to the spirit of exploration and adventure. Launched in 1953 to commemorate Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's historic ascent of Mount Everest, the Explorer has since become an enduring symbol of Rolex's dedication to reliability in extreme conditions. This version of the iconic sports watch, reference 14270 was first released at the Basel fair in 1989 and was produced until 2001, with this iteration fitted with a 'Swiss' only dial which was only produced for 1 year between 1998-1999, making it the shortest production iteration of its reference and very collectible. The watch comes set in the classic 36mm stainless steel case with the updated solid lugs and hollow end links. The glossy black 'Swiss' only dial features applied Luminova indexes, 3,6,9 hour markers and Mercedes hands. Safeguarding the dial is a flat sapphire crystal with the case fitted with a screw down crown ensuring its 10atm (100m/330ft). Powered by the automatic Calibre 3000 which boasts a 48-hour power reserve and chronometer certification. Lastly, this Explorer is completed by a brushed stainless steel Oyster bracelet secured by a folding safety catch clasp. 

Originally purchased at the start of November 1998 and in mint condition for its age, this Explorer comes with its original inner and outer boxes, card Rolex sleeve, factory service booklet, swing tag and typed international warranty papers. It is sold with a 12-month warranty from SWC.
