Emerging from the visionary ingenuity of Rolex's founder, Hans Wilsdorf, the Oyster Perpetual series stands as a pinnacle of horological innovation. In 1931, Rolex achieved a groundbreaking milestone by patenting a self-winding watch movement; the world’s first mechanism to be energized through a rotor 'weight.' This ingenious design allowed the timepiece to harness the motion of the wearer's arm and wrist, ensuring a perpetual winding of the intricate mechanism. The moniker 'Perpetual' aptly reflected this self-sustaining feature. Notably, it wasn't until the 1950s that the appellation 'Oyster Perpetual' graced the dials of automatic Rolex watches, marking a significant era in the evolution of this iconic timekeeping legacy.

This version of the Oyster Perpetual, reference 76080, was first introduced in 1998 and comes set in a 24mm stainless steel case with smooth polished bezel. The salmon sunburst dial features applied luminous hour markers, polished quarter Arab numerals and matching hands. These details are protected by a flat sapphire crystal and the 10atm (100m/330ft) water resistance is ensured by a Twinlock screwdown crown. Powering the watch is the automatic calibre 2230 mechanism and comes supplied on a matching stainless steel Oyster bracelet with crown embossed folding clasp. 

Originally purchased in July 2000 and in mint condition for its age, supplied with its original inner and outer boxes, Oyster booklet, translation booklet, calendar card, swing tag, leather document holder, original purchase receipt and original international warranty certificate. 

This Oyster Perpetual is covered by a 24-month service warranty from the date of purchase.
