Rolex Oyster Precision Bubble Back, 6098

We are proud to present this stylish vintage Rolex Oyster Precision for sale in mint condition for its age, fully checked and authenticated in our accredited workshop.

The Rolex Oyster, introduced in 1926, revolutionized watchmaking as the world's first waterproof wristwatch. It was created by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, who aimed to design a timepiece capable of withstanding dust, moisture, and pressure, all common challenges for wristwatches of the time. The Oyster case featured a hermetically sealed construction with a screw-down bezel, case back, and winding crown, ensuring durability and water resistance. Its performance was famously demonstrated in 1927 when Mercedes Gleitze swam across the English Channel wearing the watch, solidifying Rolex's reputation for precision and reliability.

This iteration of the Oyster Perpetual Precision, reference 6098, was the reference worn by Sir Edmund Hillary when climbing Mount Everest, and was first produced from the late 1940's until 1953 when it was renumbered to the 6298. Coming set in the large (for the period) 36mm stainless steel Oyster case with smooth polished bezel, and iconic polished 'bubble back' caseback. The aged silver dial features the older 'Rolex Oyster Perpetual' logo, as well as contrasting yellow gold applied Arab hour indexes and matching sword hands, in addition to the iconic blued second hand for which the reference is famed for. These details are protected by an acrylic plexi glass and is powered by the automatic calibre 775 movement. Lastly, the watch is completed by a generic black crocodile strap with matching Rolex crown pin buckle. 

Originally produced in 1951 and in fine condition, supplied with our branded SWC watch roll, authenticity card and a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
