Rolex Submariner Date 'Single Red', 1680

The Rolex Submariner can easily be described as one of Rolex's most famous designs and is considered one of the most popular diving watches ever created. When first launched back in the early 1950s, this was the first-ever watch to be water-resistant to 300m and set the standard for what a diving watch should be both in functionality and style.

The reference 1680 was launched in 1967 and was the very first date-displaying Rolex Submariner model, which makes it an especially important reference in the history of the brand’s famous dive watch. Like many vintage Rolex watches, the Submariner Date ref. 1680 came in several iterations and the so-called “Red Sub” models are among the most collectible of them all.

This version of the 1680 comes set in a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case with a bi-rotational bezel and original ghosted insert. The dial is a Mark III matte black dial with the iconic red ‘Submariner’ text and featuring Tritium luminous dot hour markers and hand set as indicated by Swiss-T<25 at the bottom of the dial. The date feature is at 3 o’clock and the dial itself is protected by an acrylic plexi-glass (affectionately referred to as a 'top-hat' due to its raised profile). The watch is powered by the Rolex calibre 1570 automatic movement and comes fitted on a replacement Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet and clasp, completed with 580 flush fittings. 

Originally from circa 1971 and in fine condition for its age, this Submariner comes with a Rolex service box, SWC authenticity card and our 12-month SWC warranty.
