Originally introduced in 1953, the Rolex Submariner established itself as the definitive professional diving watch, combining exceptional robustness, legibility and water resistance in a purpose-built design. The introduction of the date display further broadened the Submariner's functionality, creating one of the most recognisable and enduring sports watches in horological history.

This example, reference 1680, dates to circa 1976 and represents one of the most historically significant generations of the Submariner Date. Presented in its classic stainless steel Oyster case, the watch features the iconic black dial with luminous hour markers and matching hands, together with the date aperture at 3 o'clock beneath the signature Cyclops magnification lens. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a graduated diving scale, allowing elapsed dive time to be monitored safely. Protecting the dial is a plexiglass crystal. The watch is completed by its stainless steel Oyster bracelet.
