Rolex Vintage Air-King, 5500/0

The Rolex Air-King is an iconic member of the Rolex family of timepieces and is loved by Rolex fans for its understated elegance and simplicity. The only remaining watch in production from the original range of "Air" watches made with fighter pilots in mind. While the 5500 reference number was also used for certain 34mm Explorer and Oyster Perpetual models, it is most frequently associated with the Air-King and is often considered to be the quintessential Rolex Air-King reference.

This is the reference 5500, which was first launched in 1958 and comes set in a classic 34mm stainless steel Oyster case with a twin-lock screw down crown. It has a smooth polished bezel and a clean black dial (Rolex replacement) with contrasting silver baton hour markers and stick hands. The dial is protected by an acrylic plexi glass and the watch is powered by the Rolex calibre 1530 automatic movement. It comes fitted on a stainless steel Jubilee link bracelet with a folding clasp.

Originally purchased in circa 1962 and in fine condition for its age (few light marks on case/bezel). It has had a recent Rolex service (June 2018), this Air-King comes with those service papers and a box.
