The Royal Oak remains Audemars Piguet's most popular watch to date and has become a modern day icon. It effortlessly blends luxury with a practical sports watch, having been heavily influenced by the motorsports of 1972, which was when the watch was first made. The Royal Oak has a unique octagonal bezel and steel case. It was also the first watch to feature an integrated bracelet, as watch straps back then were attached separately and were usually made from leather. What followed The Royal Oak was the Royal Oak Offshore in 1993. This watch has a slightly larger case that helps to create a more masculine and rougher look than the original. Audemars Piguet wanted to create a watch that featured a three dimensional effect. This was shown with the use of oval cases, and sapphire crystal that was incorporated into the design. The watch dial was also made to be off centre, giving the watch a completely unique look. It also allows the wearer to see more components that are on the dial. A lovely finishing touch is the Côtes de Genève that is embossed across the dial. The Jules Audemars collection is named after one of the founding members and is much sought after due to its traditional design. When created back in 1875 the watch had only twenty movements. However, it was these watch movements that then went on to form the basis of Audemars Piguet, and the Jules Audemars watch we see today.
