Introduced in 1969, the El Primero marked a historic milestone as the world's first integrated automatic chronograph movement. Zenith's dedication to precision and innovation is encapsulated in this iconic timepiece, as it boasts an impressive high-frequency beat of 36,000 vibrations per hour, enabling accuracy to within one-tenth of a second. The El Primero's significance extends beyond its technical prowess, surviving the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s and later earning its place in the hearts of watch enthusiasts as a symbol of resilience and innovation. Embraced by various watch models over the years, the El Primero continues to be a symbol of Zenith's commitment to craftsmanship and pioneering spirit in the ever-evolving world of watchmaking.

This iteration of the iconic El Primero, reference A385 was one of the first 3 models released in 1969 and since have become incredibly collectible. Coming set in a 37mm stainless steel angled case with radial brushed bezel and fitted on the rarely seen original Gay Frere’s ‘ladder-style’ bracelet with a folding clasp. The dial is the iconic greyfusé colouring with contrasting white ‘aged’ sub-dials at 3/6/9 o’clock. The watch has a printed white tachymetre chapter ring, applied silver/luminous block hour markers and matching hands (all original with aged lume). The date feature is found between 4/5 o’clock, whilst the dial is protected by a domed acrylic plexi-glass. Powering this classic chronograph is the automatic calibre 3019 PHC, safeguarded by a solid caseback featuring the Zenith ‘star’ emblem. 

Originally purchased in circa 1970 and in fine condition, due to a scratch on the dial. This Zenith comes supplied with our branded box, our authenticity card and a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
